Car Flies Onto Freeway; Collision Fatal To Five

Compiled From Wire Services

A speeding car ran up an embankment, became airborne and crashed onto a freeway, smashing into a station wagon and killing five people. A sixth person was critically injured.

The car may have been traveling up to 100 mph when the driver lost control on an avenue parallel to the Pomona Freeway, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said Sunday.

The driver of the car was killed in the crash early Saturday. Tests will determine if he had been drinking, Lt. James Whitten said.

Three people in the station wagon died at the scene 15 miles east of Los Angeles, and a fourth, age 14, died several hours later. Their relationships had not been determined, Whitten said.
