Compiled From Wire Services

NBC-TV announced a new No. 1 National Football League broadcasting team Wednesday.

The opinionated Bob Trumpy, who had been with Dick Enberg for three seasons, has been demoted. The top team will consist of three men - play-by-play voice Enberg, longtime color commentator Paul Maguire and Phil Simms, who is in his rookie season with the network after one year of studio work with ESPN.

The trio, which will work Super Bowl XXX in January, will make its regular-season debut when Cleveland visits the Patriots Sept. 3.

The three will do a practice game in Cleveland on Aug. 6, then debut Aug. 13 for a Green Bay-atPittsburgh exhibition.

Trumpy, who recently signed a contract to continue working golf as well as football games for NBC, was told by executive producer Tom Roy in Washington (site of the U.S. Senior Open) that he would be dropped to work with Tom Hammond, although the change was first brought up by Ebersol several months ago. Trumpy has worked two Super Bowls for NBC.

Marv Albert, who had been with Maguire, joins Cris Collinsworth, who had been with Hammond.

As Simms was getting a big-time assignment with NBC, his old job as studio analyst at ESPN was being filled by former Green Bay receiver Sterling Sharpe.
