Boeing May Make Job Cuts All At Once
The Boeing Co. may give two-week layoff notices on March 24 to 5,500 workers rather than spread the job cuts over several months as in the past, sources within the company say.
Some Boeing officials are said to favor that strategy to get the pain and confusion of job cuts over with swiftly and allow remaining workers to focus on productivity and rebuilding morale.
Another alternative being discussed is to give everyone 60 days notice a month from now rather than spreading them out. Either way, the company would absorb the brunt of the layoff by midyear, a goal expressed by Commercial Airplane Group President Ron Woodard.
Boeing spokesman Christopher Villiers on Monday would say only that a number of possibilities are being reviewed.
About 50 workers at Boeing’s Spokane plant already have received their 60-day layoff notices.
