VA helpline

The Department of Veterans Affairs has established a toll-free number to inform Persian Gulf War veterans and their families of medical care and other benefits which are available to them.

The number, (800) PGW-VETS (800-749-8387), will connect veterans to Gulf War benefit specialists at the Persian Gulf Information Center in St. Louis, on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Central Time). A series of recorded messages will allow callers to access some information 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The helpline is part of a comprehensive outreach program established by the Veterans Benefits Act of 1994 to assist Gulf War veterans. The program also includes a newsletter and mailings for the 39,000 veterans on the Persian Gulf Registry.

Information on VA benefits, medical care and research is available to all veterans on an electronic bulletin board that can be reached, toll-free, at (800) US1-VETS (800-871-8387) by anyone with a personal computer that includes a modem and communications package.
