Council To Vote On Science Center

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Spokane City Council plans to vote tonight on a contract leasing the Riverfront Park Pavilion to the Pacific Science Center for 20 years with two 10-year renewal options.

Council members also plan to vote on a separate five-year services contract with the center that proposes the city and Park Board pay the center $400,000 a year for two years, reducing the amount each year thereafter.

The council had a public hearing on the proposal last week, and no public testimony will be taken tonight.

The Park Board, which approved the two contracts last month, began working on the proposal in 1992.

The council’s briefing starts at 5:30 p.m. in the fifth-floor conference room of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Boulevard. The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
