Local Military People Get Awards, Promotions
The following local military persons have received awards: Second Lt. James Carpenter, , Coeur d’Alene, has been named Company Grade Officer of the Year for the U.S. Air Force. He is stationed at Altus Air Force Base.
Lt. Daniel Adams, son of Gordon and Suzanne Adams, Walla Walla, has been designated a naval flight officer while serving with Helicopter Training Squadron 18, Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Milton, Fla. He was presented with the coveted Wings of Gold marking culmination of 18 months of flight training. He is a 1987 graduate of Walla Walla High School.
Teresa Orthouse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Del Orthouse, Spokane, has been selected as the Senior Sailor of the Quarter for October through December at the U.S. Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Sasebo Site, Japan. She is a 1985 graduate of Central Valley High School.
The following local military persons were promoted to their present ranks:
Sgt. Ian Smith, son of Timothy and Renee Smith, Spokane, while serving with 9th Communications Battalion, 1st Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Intelligence Group, Camp Pendleton, Calif. He is a 1990 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.
Chief Petty Officer Michael Nilsen, while serving with Commander, Submarine Squadron 17, Silverdale, Wash. He is a 1982 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School.
Lance Cpl. Kristopher Mallory, son of Stefan and Linda Mallory, Inchelium, Wash., while serving with the 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan. He is a 1993 graduate of Inchelium High School.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Robert Davenport, son of Mary Fletcher, Kennewick, while serving aboard the destroyer USS Leftwich, based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Jim Emerson has been named as December Agent of the Month for Country Companies Insurance North Spokane agency. He earned his award through a combination of written policies. He specializes in servicing state employees with pension and disability needs and works with residents in the Medical Lake/Cheney area.
Ryan Healy was chosen as the 1994 Agent of the Year for the Country Companies. He was honored for his commitment to servicing his clients in the need for policies. He focuses his growth in the Five Mile and north Spokane areas.
