Deputy Disarms Suspect In Dwi
A Chelan County sheriff’s deputy on Sunday disarmed a 47-year-old man who pulled out a semiautomatic pistol after a traffic stop near Leavenworth.
Russell R. Ruuska was jailed on charges of first-degree assault, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
The incident occurred at 11:55 a.m. when Deputy Jeff Dilks pulled over a car eastbound on U.S. Highway 2 at Duncan Road.
After smelling alcohol in the car, Dilks had the driver perform sobriety tests and then told the man he was being arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Ruuska then became uncooperative, according to the sheriff’s department. Dilks tried to restrain the man, but he turned, walked away and placed his hands in his pocket.
Dilks told the man to remove his hands and called for assistance.
Ruuska then pulled a semiautomatic pistol from his pocket and pointed it at Dilks, officers, said.
Dilks grabbed the weapon, knocked the man off-balance and drew his own weapon to make the arrest.
