Session Explores Mind-Body Connection

The monthly “Health at the Heart” series, a free health forum sponsored by Sacred Heart Medical Center and Group Health Northwest, continues Thursday at the Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Providence Auditorium, Ninth and Rockwood, with “Is This All in My Head?”. The session will explores the mindbody connection when it comes to coping with and overcoming illness.

The forum lasts from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Nutrition seminar

To commemorate National Nutrition Month, Anita Crook, a registered dietitian at Holy Family Hospital, will lead a seminar called “Nutritious, Easy and Delicious - Meatless Isn’t Tasteless!” at Holy Family Hospital on Wednesday.

Crook will speak on the nutritional values of following a vegetarian diet.

Those who attend will be able to sample some meatless dishes and take home an assortment of recipes.

The seminar begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5.

Asthma management

Kids With Asthma classes, sponsored by the American Lung Association and Valley Hospital and Medical Center, will be held this Tuesday and next Tuesday at Valley Hospital and Medical Center classroom A.

Drs. Bruce Abbotts and Michael Kraemer will teach children, ages 6-12, and their parents asthma management techniques.

Siblings, ages 6-12, of asthmatic children are also invited to attend.

Classes begin at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per family.

Alzheimer’s education

The Alzheimer’s Association begins its five-part Alzheimer’s education series with a forum titled “Lost Without My Memories” Wednesday at the Washington Water Power Co. auditorium, 1411 E. Mission.

Ray Raschko, director of Elder Services, will give an overview of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.

The session is free and begins at 7 p.m.
