East Central Judo Club Presents Awards At Banquet

The East Central Judo Club, coached by Fermin Garcia, who donates his free time to the children, recently held its annual awards banquet.

Garcia was presented with an appreciation plaque by the judo club for all that he does for his students. James Watkins, who also helps in coaching, was presented with an appreciation award.

Those receiving awards were: A.J. Hernandez, Attendance; Eric Hernandez, Male Coaches’ Award; Roman Hernandez, Best Technique; Casey Lust-Liggins, Bushido Award; Katie Lust-Liggins, Female Coaches’ Award; Billy Duong, Inspirational; Jesse Lehman, Enthusiasm; Darryl Gardner, Most Improved and Parents Award; Alex Wardian, Male Athlete of the Year; Casey Coulter, Participation; and Stephanie McKinnon, Female Athlete of the Year. Also honored were Diane Jennings, manager of the East Central Community Center and Mary Bartol, manager of the Youth Department, for their support and contributions to the club.

The following local students have been named to the Dean’s List or President’s Honor Roll for their school for fall quarter:

University of Montana, Missoula: Page Sallee Lutsenhizer, Coeur d’Alene, earned a 4.0 grade-point average. She is a 1993 graduate of Gonzaga Preparatory School.

University of Notre Dame, Ind.: Kathleen Bresnahan, Spokane. She is a 1994 graduate of Ferris High School.

Seattle Pacific University: David Bergquist, Eric Best, Robbie Kienholz, Lisa Leeming, Becky Olson, Melanie Stum, and Christina Walton, all of Spokane.

Willamette University, Salem, Ore.: Marcella Slaughter, Spokane. She is a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

Washington State University: Christine Rayburn, Pullman, a 1990 graduate of Pullman High School; and Noah Barfield, Spokane.
