Trio Program Students Honored For Successes

Successful TRIO program students from area colleges have been honored. The TRIO programs are federally funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and designed to help disadvantaged students enter college and succeed.

Local students who were honored include:

Annette Trimble of Clarkston, Wash. She is an accounting student at Walla Walla Community College and an Educational Talent Search honoree. She is a 1979 graduate of Kellogg High School.

Bill Picard, Lapwai, Idaho, is a former Upward Bound student at Lewis-Clark State College, now serving as Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee education liaison and secretary treasurer. He was honored for his achievements after completing his education. He earned a certificate in 1981 from the Lewis-Clark State College automotive program and since has served the Nez Perce Tribe in a variety of capacities, including its housing board of commissioners and as an elected member of the executive committee.

William Jones of Moscow, Idaho, is a student at the University of Idaho, who will complete work for a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at the end of the 1995 fall semester. He is a student support services honoree.

Patty Book, Spokane, was among 528 district managers from all fifty states, plus Mexico and Puerto Rico, who traveled to Orlando, Fla., for the House of Lloyd’s national sales meeting. They participated in a full weekend of panel discussions and motivational speeches.

Joan Halliday was recently elected president of the Hobnailer Hiking Club. Lucille Oslund received the 8,000 Mile Award and presently has the most club mileage. Bernadine McClincy, a charter member, was awarded a life membership for her 44 years of service and dedication to the club. Given 7,000 Mile Awards were

Five high school students in the Spokane Public Schools system have been named Washington Scholars by the Higher Education Coordinating Board and are now eligible for free college tuition.

They are: Andrew Graff and Jennifer Heckler, Rogers High School; Robyn Swanson, Lewis and Clark High School; Matthew Bachmann, Shadle Park High School; and Paul Stimers, Ferris High School.
