Francis Correll Chosen As Citizen Of The Year

Francis Correll, Spokane, has been selected by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms to receive the Citizen of the Year Award. He was selected for his dedication to the efforts to preserve the right of the people to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The Spokane General Office which represents New York Life has been named a winner of the 1994 Professional Growth Award. The award, granted by The American College, an education institution in Bryn Mawr, Pa., offers designations and degrees to life insurance and financial services professionals seeking career growth.

The Optimist Club of Downtown Spokane had over 100 area students ages 8-13 compete in the Tri Star Basketball free throw, dribbling and passing skills contest held at Salk Middle School on March 1. Winners are as follows:

Girls: Ages 8-9: Cassandra Koegen, Pratt Elementary, first place; Elonda Hoch, second place, and Holly Ridings, third place, both of Westview Elementary.

Ages Michelle Hoy, Pratt Elementary, first place; Melissa Ryoppy, Westview Elementary, second place; and Iva Reuben, Stevens Elementary, third place.

Ages Amy Ridings, Salk Middle School, first place; Amanda Folsom, second place, and Stephanie Holloway, third place, both of Garry Middle School.

Boys: Ages 8-9: Derek Schramm, Woodbridge Elementary, first place; Randy Folsom, Madison Elementary, second place; and Greg Benjamin, Woodridge Elementary, third place.

Ages Mike Peterson, Linwood School, first place; Johnny Ball, Westview Elementary, second place; and Ian Gibson, Garfield Elementary, third place.

Ages Nathan Barkdull, Glover Elementary, first place; Matt Grace, Whitman Elementary, second place; and Jeremy Sugalski, Salk Middle School, third place.

The City of Spokane Chapter of the National Management Association sponsored an American Enterprise Speech Contest at City Hall in February. There were 11 students from area schools who participated in the contest, which wasjudged by local members of Toastmasters International.

Winning a $200 first place award for the speech, “Take a Step Up” was Erynne Vodde.

Victoria Fairchild, formerly of Spokane, was the second runner-up in the Woodinville Business & Professional Women’s 1995 Young Careerist competition. Fairchild works as a sales coordinator for the Space Needle, planning large functions and promoting tourism.
