Extra Green Sways Green

Associated Press

Jerry Green turned down the basketball coaching job at Nevada-Las Vegas and accepted a new contract at Oregon that will keep him in Eugene as long as he wants to stay.

Green said he thought he’d leave for UNLV when he returned from Las Vegas on Tuesday, but changed his mind after a 90-minute meeting at night with Oregon vice president Dan Williams.

“I liked what I heard,” Green said. “After our conversation last night and again this morning, there was absolutely no question of what I should do.”

Green, who in his third season directed the Ducks to a 19-10 record and their first NCAA tournament berth in 34 years, agreed to a four-year contract that increases his annual pay 20 percent to $249,000 per year.
