Infant Death At Day Care Probed

Associated Press

Police are investigating the death of a 6-month-old girl at an unlicensed Moscow child-care facility.

Jashelle K.D. Babb died Feb. 28 at a Moscow baby sitter’s home. She was the daughter of Shad Babb, a Latah County sheriff’s deputy, and his wife, Heather.

Latah County Coroner Daniel Schmidt on Friday said Jashelle asphyxiated by breathing her vomit. She was sleeping face down on a soft water bed, he said.

Moscow Police Detective Neil Odenborg said police look into all unattended infant deaths, but this investigation has been a little more in depth since it is the second to occur at that residence.

Another child died in 1991. That was ruled as sudden infant death syndrome.

So far there are no indications a crime was committed, police said.
