Pavin, Langer Deadlocked Heading Down Final Stretch

Compiled From Wire Services

Bernhard Langer and Corey Pavin fought the gusting wind and ghoulish greens of the TPC golf course to a standstill Saturday and shared the lead going into the final round of The Players Championship at the TPC-Sawgrass Stadium Course.

Langer’s 71 and Pavin’s 72 put them at 5-under-par 211, one stroke ahead of Lee Janzen, who putted his way to a 3-under-par 69, a magnificent score the way this course is playing.

Pullman’s Kirk Triplett has a three-day total of 224, 8-over par.

The wind continued to confuse and frustrate the players. On some holes the flag would hang limply from the pin while the tree tops towering above bent in a stiff, steady breeze.
