Healthtalk Focuses On Incontinence

The Rockwood Clinic and HealthPlus are cosponsoring a community education program called HealthTalks. The first one is on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Rockwood Clinic Conference Room.

Thursday’s HeathTalk deals with incontinence, or loss of bladder control, which plagues some 10 million people across the country.

Urologists Dr. Richard Scriven, a staff physician at the Rockwood Clinic, and Dr. Lou Koncz will discuss standard incontinence treatments as well as a new, nonsurgical procedure called Contingen implant, a procedure that can be performed on an outpatient basis.

Alzheimer’s discussion

Dr. Allen Fitz will lead a lunch-time, in-depth discussion on the behaviors of people with the Alzheimer’s disease at the St. Luke’s Medical Building from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Dr. Fitz will also examine ways of coping and dealing with Alzheimer’s behaviors.

Lunch will be available for purchase, or, bring your own.

The cost is $5. Women’s Health Network and Health Access members are free.

Colon cancer forum

There will be Colorectal cancer forum today from 7-9 p.m. at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene.

Three Coeur d’Alene specialists, featuring Dr. Stanley Toelle, a gastroenterologist, Dr. Alice Forsythe, a medical oncologist, and Dr. John Pennings, a surgeon, will review colon cancer prevention, screening methods, diagnosis and surgical treatment.

Over 150,000 new cases of colon cancer are diagnosed each year. The disease kills about 60,000 of its patients.

Resource center to open

The Easter Seal Society, in conjunction with the Washington Assistive Technology Alliance, will hold an open house on Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, for new Regional Assistive Technology Resource Center it has opened in its Spokane office, 606 W. Sharp.

The center is designed to increase awareness, availability and accessibility of Assistive Technology devices and services for individuals living with disabilities.

Friday’s open house lasts from 2-8 p.m. On Saturday, hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
