Washington State officials will learn today whether the NCAA will impose further sanctions in connection with the school’s most recent NCAA rules violations.

The NCAA has scheduled a press teleconference at 10:30 a.m. to announce its final resolution of penalties against WSU for infractions that occurred within the past four years and were self-reported by the school to the Pacific-10 Conference last June.

Those infractions included the use of ineligible players in football and baseball, the failure to properly report such violations and a general lack of institutional control over the eligibility certification process.

In response to the infractions,

the Pac-10 publicly reprimanded and censured the school and extended its probation from a previous case to June 21, 1997.

The conference also ordered the school to tighten its certification procedures and make its top athletic department officials attend annual NCAA and Pac-10 compliance seminars during the duration of the probation period.
