Legislation Could Change Your Life

State legislators want teens to talk to their parents more.

In the last two weeks, the state House and Senate have voted on measures that would involve parents in teens’ decisions to get an abortion or get a tattoo.

The Senate voted 48-1 in favor of the tattoo law, which would make it illegal to tattoo a teen under 16 without parental permission. The measure is expected to sail through the House.

The House voted 54-44 to require parental notification 48 hours before an abortion if a girl under 18 decides to end her pregnancy. It would also require notification of the parents of the father if he’s a teen. This bill faces tough opposition in the Senate and a veto threat by the Governor.
