Portland Outlasts WSU

College baseball

The visiting Washington State Cougars (10-15) failed to turn a oneout double play in the bottom of the 11th inning and lost to the Portland Pilots 7-6 in Pacific-10 North Division play Wednesday.

The Pilots (11-11) loaded the bases with no outs in the 11th after Ken Wicher reached on a fielding error and Brad Reitzenstein and John Doran were hit by Cougars pitcher Todd Belitz.

Belitz was then relieved by Jared Clifford, who struck out Chandler Martin of the Pilots before Mike Westmore’s throwing error ended the game.

Jesse Travis (1-0) picked up the win for Portland, while Belitz (1-2) suffered the loss.
