Koesters Sets The Pace, Wins Pro-Am With A 67
University of Idaho Golf Course pro Dan Koesters proved consistency brings dividends as he won Monday’s Washington Trust Bank Pro-Am at The Fairways.
Koesters put together a 5-underpar 67 (34-33), picking up three birdies on the front side and four on the back, but giving away a couple of strokes with a bogie on each side.
That was good for a one-shot edge over pros Mike Rorholm of Manito (36-32) and Stephanie Davis of Hayden Lake (33-35).
Others scored better on each side - Wandermere pro Bill Ross had a 31 on the front, for instance, and three pros had 32s on the back - but none matched Koesters’ consistency for 18 holes.
Ross had a 69 to share fourth with Scott Shagool of Painted Hills.
Dick Bingham of Spokane Country Club (34-36) and Kent Brown of Liberty Lake (36-34) shared the amateur lead with 70s.
Net leaders: 0-8 handicap- John Bergman, Qualchan, 72-8-64. 9-13 handicap-Shelton Wade, Downriver, 73-12-61 (adjusted to 64); Kerry Novell, Manito, 77-13-64; Norm Bratlie, Avondel, 76-12-64. 14-and-up-George Stumph, Indian Canyon, 81-17-64.
