Larry Reed Receives Grant From Toyota

Larry Reed, a teacher at Selkirk Junior/Senior High School in Ione, Wash., has received a $10,000 grant from Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. The money will be used by students at the school to create a regional testing lab to analyze wastewater. The competition, administered by the National Science Teachers Association, chose Reed as one of 40 teachers across the country to receive a 1995 Toyota Tapestry grant.

Diana Shockley, daughter of Calvin and Judy Shockley, has been elected to membership in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She was inducted as an undergraduate student through the Xi Mu chapter at Linfield-Good Samaritan College of Nursing in Portland and is currently in her senior year. She is a 1990 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School.

Scott Fehrenbacher, branch manager and investment counselor with Linsco/Private Leger in Spokane and the KREM-2 personal finance expert, was invited to the American Skandia Leaders College in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Spokane Valley Good Samaritan Center recently honored volunteers at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. Special recognition was given to Emma Jacklin for 34 years of volunteer service and to Ethel Brasch for 36 years of volunteer service. She is 100 years old and now a resident at the nursing center.

Debbie Sisk, a senior at Rogers High School, was a runner-up in Seattle University’s seventh Sullivan Leadership Award competition. She is the daughter of David and Darlene Sisk, Spokane, and will receive at least a $4,500 scholarship to attend Seattle University.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, treasurer of the associated student body and valedictorian of her class. She also is a member of the marching, concert and pep bands, the tennis and track teams and was recently named a Howard Hughes Science Scholar.

Kristen McIvor was recently inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, a national freshman honor society. She is the daughter of the Rev. David and Merrie McIvor, Spokane, and is a student at the University of Evansville, Ind.
