University of Idaho standouts Mindy Rice and Brittany Van Haverbeke have been named to the United States Olympic Festival 1995 women’s volleyball team.
The 1995 Olympic Festival will take place July 21-30 in Denver.
Rice, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Grandview, Idaho, was the first All-American in Big Sky Conference history following her senior season. She was also named the Big Sky Conference MVP as well as being named to the All-Northwest Region first team this season.
Van Haverbeke, a 5-11 middle blocker from Lake Oswego, Oregon, was also an All-Northwest Region first-team selection, as well as being named first-team All-Big Sky.
Rice and Van Haverbeke are among 48 athletes who will make up the four teams in the festival. Idaho is one of 11 schools to have more than one athlete representative. The 48 participants were selected from more than 400 athletes who participated in four tryouts conducted over the past six weeks.

Arizona State’s Scott Johnson shot a 1-over-par 73 in the third round of the Pacific-10 Men’s Golf Championships to hold a 2-stroke lead at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland, Wash.
The third round was played in blustery weather that included misty rains early in the day and winds that gusted to 20 mph throughout.
Host Washington State jumped over pre-tourney favorite Stanford, turning in a team score of 379 in the third round. Max McCain was WSU’s individual but leader at 222. Craig Looper had the top round for a Cougar with a 72.
Baseball
Gonzaga University’s exhibition baseball game Tuesday at Pecarovich Field with the National Baseball Institute of Canada was postponed due to rain.
The teams will play a single game today at 4 p.m. at Pecarovich.
GU right-hander Darin Blood has been named the Pacific-10 Conference North pitcher of the week for hurling the Zags to a 9-2 win over Portland in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Basketball
North Idaho College point guard Jamie Snook will transfer to Mt. Hood College in Gresham, Ore., NIC men’s basketball coach Rolly Williams said.
Snook, a reserve behind fellow freshman Steve Helm, hit 39 percent on 3-pointers and often provided an offensive spark off the bench last season.
Williams said he would have welcomed Snook back next season, but believes Snook is hoping for increased playing time at Mt. Hood.
NIC has signed two players forward Gabriel Rapier from Garfield High in Seattle and guard Toby Shack from Loyola High in Missoula.
