Murder Suspect Pang To Contest Extradition
Martin Pang, charged with murder in the arson deaths of four Seattle firefighters, will fight extradition from Brazil to the United States, his attorney says.
John Henry Browne said Tuesday he may argue that Pang cannot be extradited because prosecutors don’t have enough evidence tying him to the Jan. 5 arson at Mary Pang Food Products, his parents’ food-processing warehouse.
Pang, 39, was arrested March 15 in Rio de Janeiro.
A Brazilian extradition proceeding is similar to a minitrial on the charges someone faces in his home country, prosecutors said. U.S. officials need to prove there is probable cause to charge Pang with felonies.
