Betty Nessly Okanogan, Wash.

Service for Betty Louise Nessly, 72, will be at 11 a.m. today at Omak Free Methodist Church. Barnes Elmway Chapel, Okanogan, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nessly died Wednesday.

She was born in Spokane.

She lived with her family in Spangle, Wash., and Clayton, Wash., on a dairy ranch.

She and her husband, William, settled in the Bigfoot Valley, northwest of Spokane and operated a ranch.

They moved to Deer Park in 1965 and to Grand Coulee in 1971. They lived at Omak from 1973 until 1981, when they moved to Federal Way, Wash.

They retired in 1986 and returned to Omak.

She operated a day-care and worked as a domestic for many years. She had also worked for Crown Zellerbach in the plywood plant.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Grand Coulee and the Free Methodist Church in Omak and taught Sunday School and played the piano for both churches.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Bill; six sons, Chuck Nessly of Omak, Buck and Chic Nessley, both of Remond, Wash., Wyatt Nessly of Grand Coulee, and Butch Nessly of South Dakota; four daughters, Mickie Files of Wenatchee, Gin Banken of Renton, Wash., Judy Utz of North Dakota, and Kathy Nessly of Okanogan; one brother, Joe Henry of Moses Lake; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and 10 step-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Arthritis Foundation.

Margaret Parks Spokane

Service for Margaret A. Parks, 73, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Jacksonville, Texas, Mrs. Parks died May 1.

She had lived in Spokane since 1946 and graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing as a licensed practical nurse.

She worked for many area hospitals including Sacred Heart Hospital for 18 years. She also worked at Mount St. Joseph, and with the Dominican Sisters. She retired in 1985.

She was a volunteer at the East Central Community Center.

Her husband, Columbus Parks, died in 1971.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry and Freddy Parks; one daughter, Ethel Marsh, all of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Hazel Chambers Spokane

Memorial Service for Hazel M. Chambers, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Delaney Apartments, 242 W. Riverside. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Chambers, who died Tuesday, was born in Sheridan, Wyo.

She had lived in Spokane since 1953 and was a hairdresser.

Her husband, W.H. Chambers, died in 1994.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Cora Stenzel Spokane

Memorial service for Cora Ann Stenzel, 91, will be at 11 a.m. today at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

She died Wednesday.

A 50-year Spokane resident, she was a homemaker.

Her husband, Walter Stenzel, died in 1975.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Palmer of Spokane.

Helen Chandler Spokane

No service will be held for Caroline Helen Chandler, 92.

Born in Germany, she had lived in Spokane for 85 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Playfair Turf Club.

Her husband, Dearl Chandler, died in 1972.

She is survived by two daughters, Wilda Reynolds and Peggy Silva, both of Spokane; one son, Walter Chandler of Spring Hill, Fla.; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

Dalbert Cole Colville, Wash.

Service for Dalbert Edward Cole, 83, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Colville Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel, Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cole died Wednesday.

He was born in Spokane and moved to Colville with his family when he was four.

He graduated from Colville High School and had worked for the Van Stone Mine.

He served in the Navy for two years during World War II.

Following the war, he worked for Colville Electric and, for 10 years, as an electrician at Spruce Canyon Youth Camp, east of Colville. He returned to Colville Electric and retired in 1986.

He served on the Colville Volunteer Fire Department and was a deacon at Colville Assembly of God.

He is survived by his wife, Inez Cole; one son, James Cole of Everett, Wash.; two stepsons, Eugene Adams of Spokane and Kenneth Adams of Tucson, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Lillian Parsons of Seattle; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Walter Stelzer Kettle Falls, Wash.

Memorial service for Walter Irvin Stelzer, 87, is set for 1 p.m. Friday at Christian Life Assembly. Danekas Funeral Home in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stelzer, a former St. John, Wash., resident, died Thursday.

He was born in Columbus, Ohio, and had lived in Kettle Falls for 27 years.

He was rancher.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Mary Floyd of Kettle Falls, Margaret Stevens of Spokane, and Connie Ulrich of St. John; two sons, John Stelzer of Rosalia, Wash., and Jason Stelzer of Kettle Falls; one stepdaughter, Becky Krouch of Kettle Falls; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

His wife, Mary Belle Freeman Stelzer, preceded him in death.

Vivian Schultz Spokane

Graveside service for Vivian Schultz, 67, will be at 3 p.m. today at Garfield (Wash.) Cemetery. Memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Schultz died Thursday.

She was born in Garfield, Wash., where she graduated from high school.

A homemaker, she had lived in Spokane for 47 years.

She was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, James Schultz; one daughter, Karen West of Spokane; two sons, Larry and Gary Schultz, both of Spokane; seven grandchildren.

Betty Peterson Spokane

Memorial service for Betty A. Peterson, 70, is set for 4 p.m. Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Born in Devils Lake, N.D., Mrs. Peterson died Wednesday at home.

Mrs. Peterson, a homemaker, had lived in Spokane for 48 years.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Laverne Peterson; one daughter, Darlene LaBrosse of Liberty Lake; one son, Terry Peterson of Tacoma; two sisters, Rose and Helen; three brothers, Frank, Richard and Gerald, and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Robert Holmes Spokane

Service for Robert Dale Holmes, 75, is planned for noon today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Holmes, who died Wednesday, was born in Craigmont, Idaho.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 30 years and was a construction laborer.

Mr. Holmes was a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Evalene; five sons, Robert Jr., Michael, Howard, David, and Harold Holmes; five daughters, Kay Tillotson, Norma Reilly, Sharon Lawson, Kathleen Holmes, Janice Jones, all of Spokane; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Kathy Nickodemus Sandpoint

Memorial service for Kathy Ann Nickodemus, 40, is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sandpoint. Burial service will be Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Angel, Ore. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of local arrangements.

Born in Denver, Mrs. Nickodemus died Thursday.

She graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula with a degree in early childhood education.

She and her husband, Stephen, moved to Sandpoint from Oregon in November.

She had worked as a substitute teacher.

She was a member of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where her husband is the pastor.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Stephen Nickodemus; three sons, David, Tim and Ben Nickodemus, all of Sandpoint; her parents, William and OlaFaye Hinsey of Silverton, Ore.; two sisters Carol Wnek of Bremerton, Wash., and Peggy Kaney of Tahlequah, Okla.

Brandon Johnson Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Brandon J. Johnson, 31, is set for 2 p.m. today at Mountain View Mennonite Church in Bonners Ferry. Burial will follow at Mountain View Mennonite Cemetery. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson died Wednesday from leukemia.

He was born in Turlock, Calif.

He moved to Bonners Ferry with his family when he was 13.

He is survived by his parents, Elwood and Lois Johnson; one brother, Terry Johnson; two sisters, Judy Jantz and Becky Johnson; his grandparents, Vernon and Bertha Wedel, all of Bonners Ferry.

Sharon Selby Spokane

Service for Sharon G. Selby, 57, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Selby, a longtime Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

She was born in Heyburn, Idaho.

She had been a volunteer with Ogden Hall and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Bill Selby; two daughters, Pam Miller and Stacy Carlson, both of Spokane; five brothers and sisters, Myrl, Fred and David Yeaman, Shawn Clifford, and Patte Solverson; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church.

Pearl Smith Spokane

Service for Pearl Mae (Krous) Smith, 93, is set for 11 a.m. Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Smith died Thursday.

She was born in Lenoir City, Tenn.

She had lived in Wilbur, Wash., and was in Spokane for the past 29 years.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ladies Auxiliary of World War I and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Wilbur.

Her husband, Charles Smith, died in 1966.

Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn Meili of Spokane; two brothers, Floyd Krous of Mead and Virgil Krous of Spokane; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Brenda Drake Spokane

Service for Brenda L. Drake, 56, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Colville, Mrs. Drake died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 54 years and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, William Drake; two daughters, Tina Kalmik of Veradale, and Robyn Myser of Spokane; one son, Cary Drake of Spokane; her mother, Esther Hughes of Ritzville; two brothers, Clark Christel of Spokane, and Neal Hughes of Deer Park; two sisters, Myra Weber of Lapwai, Idaho, and Noreen Futcher of Murrieta, Calif.; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
