Armstrong Wins Dupont

Compiled From Wire Services

Lance Armstrong was a disappointing fifth in the final stage of the Tour DuPont, but it was enough for him to win the top cycling event in the United States.

Defending champion Viatcheslav Ekimov of Russia rode to a dominating final-stage win. Still, the 23-year-old Armstrong - making good on a promise of victory he made five years ago - finished the 11-stage competition 2 minutes ahead of Ekimov.
