Angler’s Fish Lands Boat

After a week of sweating it out, Ed Rivers learned Monday that he’s the owner of a new fishing boat, thanks to a 19-pound, 14-ounce rainbow trout.

With all the reports in, Rivers was the apparent winner of the grand prize in the K and K Challenge fishing derby on Lake Pend Oreille.

He caught his Kamloops rainbow trout on May 1, the first day of the weeklong derby. To Rivers’ surprise, no one caught a bigger fish.

“The pros were out there, and they don’t give up easy,” said the 64-year-old Air Force retiree and Cocolalla resident.

The $14,000 fishing boat will replace Rivers’ 20-yearold boat, which he’ll sell.

“Can’t use two boats,” he said.
