Avis Adams Spokane

Service for Avis G. Adams, 75, is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Adams, a Spokane resident since 1969, was born in Garfield County, Mont.

She died Friday.

She had worked for the Department of Social and Health Services in Washington for 15 years and retired in 1985.

She was a member of the Corbin Club, the Lincoln Heights Senior Citizens Club and the Retired State Employees.

Her husband, Paul Adams, preceded her in death..

Survivors include one son, Duane Adams of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Duane Hamilton of Spokane; one sister, Agnes Christopherson of Littleton, Colo.; and two grandsons.

Mike Aaron Jr. Spokane

Graveside service for Mike Aaron Jr., 63, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Aaron, who died Thursday, was born in Amite, La.

He had lived in Spokane since 1953 and served in the Air Force in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the military in 1970.

He worked at Deaconess Medical Center for 10 years and retired in 1980.

He was a member of Ministers Fellowship Alliance and volunteered at East Central Community Center.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doris Aaron; two sons, Mike Aaron III of Pinole, Calif., and Ronald Ball of Hercules, Calif.; two sisters, Clotilde Zanders of Amite, and Mildred Turner of New Orleans; and two granddaughters.

Beulah Edwards Greenacres

Service for Beulah M. Edwards, 89, is set for 11 a.m. today at Pines Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Edwards, a 47-year Spokane resident, died Friday.

She was born in Monticello, Ark.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Spokane Valley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Pines Baptist Church.

Her husband, John Edwards, died in 1994.

She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Price of Hoodsport, Wash., and Anita Crimin of Yakima; one son, Ray Edwards of Lake Oswego, Ore.; one sister, Nan Stuckey of Little Rock, Ark.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.

Gordon Beyer Potlatch, Idaho

Graveside service for Gordon Morse Beyer, 53, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Freeze Cemetery north or Potlatch.

Mr. Beyer, who died Friday at home, was born in Deary, Idaho.

He worked for farmers in the Pullman and Potlatch areas. He later worked for the Benewah County Road District.

He is survived by his companion, Connie Jones; two sons, Dean Beyer of Potlatch and Donald Beyer of Bovill, Idaho; eight daughters, Shirley Mooney of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lynda Gilman of The Dalles, Ore., Sandra Jones of Boise, Kristiana, Sherry and Peggy Sue Beyer, and Joyce and Amanda Jones, all of Potlatch; seven brothers, Fred and Donald Beyer, both of Potlatch, Charlie Beyer of Helmer, Idaho, Jake Beyer of Bovill, Idaho, and Ronald, Ed and Dave Beyer, all of Deary; and 11 grandchildren.

Joseph Burya Valley, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Joseph Burya, 85, was held Monday at Holy Ghost Church in Valley. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery at Jump Off near Valley.

Mr. Burya, a longtime Valley resident, died Thursday.

He was born in St. Cloud, Minn.

He worked at his brother’s sawmill until it burned down in 1940 and then worked as a mechanic at Northwest Magnesite until it closed. He then worked for Jump Off Lumber Co., until 1973, when he retired.

He played on the Valley baseball team.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; two sons, Denny Burya of Chewelah, Wash., and David Burya of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Kathy Nett and Joni Stallings, Spokane; eight grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Bernice Chalem Spokane

Graveside service Bernice M. Chalem, 80, was held Sunday at Mt. Nebo Cemetery.

Mrs. Chalem, who died Friday, was born in New York City.

She had lived in Spokane for 15 years and was a member of Temple Beth Shalom.

Her husband, Jack Chalem, died in 1989.

She is survived by one son, Mark Chalem of Spokane; one brother Phillip Marcus of Boca Raton, Fla.; one sister, Frances Rudnick of Des Plaines, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

Donald Holmberg Spokane

Funeral Mass for Donald Paul Holmberg, 60, is set for 10 a.m. today at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Holmberg, a retired general contractor, died Friday.

He was a lifetime Spokane resident and attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

He served in the Navy and was a member of the Jaycees, the Elks Club and the John Birch Society.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Holmberg; two daughters, Becky Scripter and Lori Holmberg, both of Spokane; his mother, Minnie Erickson of Spokane; two brothers, Gerald Holmberg of Spokane and Robert Erickson of Newport, Wash.; and one sister, Carole Hamby of Spokane.

Margaret Plunkitt Chattaroy

Graveside service for Margaret Esther Plunkitt, 74, was held Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Memorial service followed at Euclid Avenue Baptist Church.

Mrs. Plunkitt died Friday Deer Park hospital.

She was born in Cheney and graduated from Cheney High School. She was a longtime Chattaroy resident.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Plunkitt of Chattaroy; two sons, James Plunkitt of Portugal and Donald Plunkitt of Chattaroy; three sisters, Mable Marey of Ellensburg, Betty Bernham of Everett and Nellie Schmidt of Seattle; one brother, Si Hair of Tekoa, Wash.; and two granddaughters.

Howard Copeland Spokane

Service for Howard C. Copeland, 78, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Copeland, a retired Air Force chief warrant officer, died Friday.

He was born in Kennewick and had lived in Spokane for nearly 30 years.

He served in the Air Force from 1939 until 1967.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474, the North Hill Masonic Lodge No. 210 Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the El Katif Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Copeland; two daughters, Kathy Beaver of Spokane and Betsy Munroe of Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Bill Copeland of Bloomington, Minn., and Bob Copeland of Colorado Springs; one sister, Barbara Lundquist of Martinez, Calif.; one brother, Ray Copeland of Eagle, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

Charlotte Freeborg Olympia

No service will be held for Charlotte L. Freeborg, 86, a former Spokane resident. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Mills and Mills Funeral Directors in Olympia is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Freeborg, who died Friday, was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School.

She had worked for the Department of Agriculture in Davenport, Wash., and retired from Washington Water Power in Spokane.

She moved to Olympia six years ago.

She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta.

Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Hartley, and one brother, Arthur Freeborg, both of Olympia.

Elwyn Tuttle Spokane

Service for Elwyn Tuttle, 85, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ridgeview Christian Center. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Tuttle, who died Friday, was born in Northboro, Iowa.

A 60-year Spokane resident, Mr. Tuttle had worked for Webster Lumber for many years. He also worked as a custodian at Sacred Heart Medical Center for five years.

He was a member of Ridgeview Christian Center and served many years as a board member and usher.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathryn Tuttle; one daughter, Darlene Opstrup of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Herschel Tuttle of Emmett, Idaho; one sister, Dorothy Burge of Coeur d’Alene; and three grandchildren.

Donna Drumheller Spokane

No service will be held for Donna K. Drumheller, 64, at her request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Drumheller died Sunday.

She was born in Spokane and was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Chris Denenny of Veradale; three sons, Doug and Brad Journey, both of Spokane, and Tom Journey of Kent, Wash.; one brother, Richard Kjose of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

Annabell Oens Kingston, Idaho

Service for Annabell Oens, 72, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pinehurst, Idaho. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Spokane. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Oens, who died Friday, was born in Bloomfield, Neb.

She moved from Spokane to Shoshone County in the 1950s.

She had worked as a certified nurses aide in Fairfield at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She had also worked as an at-home nurse.

Mrs. Oens was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Her husband, Roy Oens, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen Blakney of Kingston; one son, Randal Oens of Spokane; one sister, Edith Stinson of Iowa; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Alby Gulman Kellogg

Memorial service for Alby C. Gulman, 77, a retired electrician, will be at 11 a.m. today at Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gulman, who died Thursday at home, was born in Alberta, Canada.

He moved to Kellogg from Spokane in the 1930s and retired from Bunker Hill Mining Co. in 1979.

He enjoyed yard work.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Gulman; one son, Louis Gulman of Seattle; one daughter, Lois Lawson of New Zealand; one sister, Ora LaCross of Arizona; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Michael O’Brien Coeur d’Alene

No service will be held for Michael O’Brien, 74, at his request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. O’Brien, who died Friday, was born in Grand Prairie, Texas.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene from California in 1982.

His wife, Edith, died in 1991.

He is survived by one son, Larry O’Brien of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Betty Selinski of Newbury Park, Calif., and Patricia Small of Post Falls; and two grandchildren.

Evelyn George Coeur d’Alene

No service will be held for Evelyn W. George, 90, at her request. English Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. George, who died Friday, was born in Illinois.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene from California in 1988.

Her husband, Charles, died in 1985.

She is survived by two daughters, Lorraine George and Elaine Timmerman, both of Coeur d’Alene.

William Lanum Rathdrum, Idaho

No service will be held for William J. Lanum, 87, at his request. English Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Ansley, Neb., Mr. Lanum died Friday at home.

He had lived in Rathdrum for 24 years, moving from Spokane. He had previously lived in California.

He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

He is survived by his wife, Edith; one son, Bill Lanum of Rathdrum; and two brothers, Joseph and Gus Lanum, both of San Francisco.

Lee ‘Dan’ Price Coeur d’Alene

Service for Lee Daniel “Dan” Price, 54, is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Price died Saturday.

He was born in Madera, Calif., and moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1970 from California.

He was a retired auto mechanic and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on old cars.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marianne; one son, Earl Price of Coeur d’Alene; one daughter, Sherri McGrath of Post Falls; four sisters, Margie Sargent and Wanda Anderson, both of Cowchilla, Calif., Opal Renfro of Manteca, Calif., and Marjorie Speaks of Modesto, Calif.
