Moscow Knocks Off Lake City
Idaho preps
Moscow dominated early and held on to upset Lake City 1-0 in the semifinals of the North Idaho Cup soccer playoffs on Thursday at Hayden Meadows Elementary School.
The No. 4 seeded Bears will meet No. 2 Sandpoint for the championship on Saturday.
The Bulldogs blanked No. 3 Coeur d’Alene 2-0 on Thursday at Memorial Field.
The Timberwolves battle the Vikings for third place on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Sandpoint, with the title game to follow.
“The first 25 minutes (the Bears) just completely dominated the game,” Timberwolves coach Bill Eisenwinter said. “We just weren’t ready to play.”
Moscow (11-5 overall) got its goal from Todd Mordhorst from about 12 yards out at the 7-minute mark of the first half.
Lake City (13-2-2) outshot the visitors 12-7.
Sandpoint (13-2-3) picked up its first score 25 minutes into the first half off a header from freshman Jason Campbell.
At the 50-minute mark, the Bulldogs added a goal from Jeremy Fredrickson. Sandpoint outshot Coeur d’Alene 18-8.
Softball
Lewiston swept Post Falls in an Inland Empire League doubleheader on the Bengals’ field.
Lewiston sent 21 batters to the plate and scored 17 runs in the third inning of the opener en route to a 19-9 victory. In the late game, the Bengals scored twice in the fifth to post a 5-3 win.
Lewiston (4-10, 6-15) plays ts final regularseason IEL game on Saturday at Sandpoint. Post Falls finished 7-9, 7-16.
Baseball
Rain canceled a non-league doubleheader between Lakeland and Post Falls, as well as St. Maries’ non-league home game with Wallace.
The Miners-Lumberjacks game has been rescheduled for today. The Hawks and Trojans will not make up their games.
