Kyle Kelly shot a 1-over-par 73 at MeadowWood Thursday to win the District 8/Athletic Round Table golf tournament by seven strokes and lead nine Greater Spokane League golfers into the state tournament.
Monday at Indian Canyon, the North Central junior won the Inland Empire Tournament, which was the first round of the district tournament, with a 3-under par 69 on Monday.
Kelly birdied the seventh and ninth holes to make the turn at MeadowWood 2 under. He ran into trouble on the backside with a bogey on the par-5 16th and a double bogey six on No. 18.
Senior Matt Johnson of University had a 74 to finish second at 149. He had birdies on No. 10, 12 and 18 for a backside of 35.
Ben Holt of Mead, a senior, had a 75-151 to lead three Mead golfers on to state. The top nine players advanced to state at Qualchan May 22-23.
Making the biggest jump was Panthers senior Dustin Dauphin, who had a 71-156.
Also qualifying were Luke Stavros and Kyle Schwahn of Central Valley, Bryan Fong of Mead and Dave Fundine of Ferris.
It takes two golfers to compete for a team title at state.
Mead’s Jason Bedadi beat out Shadle Park’s Robert Selland in a playoff for the provisional 10th spot.
Both golfers parred the first three playoff holes, but Selland failed to match Bedadi’s par on the fourth.
Frontier League girls
East Valley’s Brenda Hall shot an 82 to take the lead at the Frontier League District 7 tournament at Hangman Valley Golf Course.
Hall sits five strokes ahead of Colville’s Terra Lawson and 17 in front of Clarkston’s Kari Martin.
The second round is Wednesday at the Moscow Elks Course.
