Preakness Loses Colt

Compiled From Wire Services

The field for the Preakness fell to 11 when Citadeed was ruled out with an injured left foreleg.

Citadeed, the England-based colt who finished ninth in the Kentucky Derby on May 6, developed an inflammation of the leg, trainer Richard Violette said.

The track oddsmaker installed Derby winner Thunder Gulch as the 2-1 pre-draw favorite for Saturday’s second leg of the Triple Crown, to be run in Baltimore.

The rest of the early odds had Talkin Man as second favorite at 4-1, followed by Timber Country (9-2), Tejano Run (6-1) and Our Gatsby (10-1).

Go for Gin, winner of the 1994 Kentucky Derby, retired from racing because of a leg injury.

Go for Gin finished his career with five wins in 19 starts, and career earnings of $1,380,866.
