Winning Works From Lilac Exhibition At Corbin

The winners of the Juried Lilac Exhibition currently have their work on display at the Corbin Art Center, 507 W. 7th.

The artists include: Betty Billups, Edie Dunlap, Delbert Gish, Rachel Pettit, Emma Randolph, Dan Sanford, Helen Staples, Carolyn Trueblood and Gay Waldman.

The works were selected by juror Ned Mueller. The Juried Lilac Exhibit runs through May 25.

Artists in juried exhibitions

Local artist Marian Flahavin recently had a pastel painting entitled “Dance of Dreams” accepted into the 18th annual Juried Open Exhibition of the Salmagundi Club in New York City. The painting will be on display through May 27.

Mary Maxam, a Coeur d’Alene artist, has been accepted into this year’s Northwest Watercolor Society Show in Kirkland.

Corbin Art Center happenings

The Corbin Art Center, 507 W. 7th, begins its seven-week series of arts and crafts workshops for children ages 3-5 and 6-11 on Monday, June 19.

The children in the ages 3-5 group will learn to work with clay and color as well as construct various crafts, puppets and more.

For 6-11 group, workshops include basic drawing, painting, sculpting, cartooning, arts and crafts, papermaking, commercial arts and much more.

Workshops range from one to two hours long.

Summer quarter classes begin June 19.

Graduates to exhibit works

Graduating art students at Spokane Falls Community College will be featured in an exhibit entitled “Imagine That.” The exhibit runs June 5-16 at the SFCC Art Gallery.

The offerings draw from numerous mediums including drawings, jewelry, print-making, sculpture, ceramics and watercolor.

A closing reception will be held on June 16 following graduation ceremonies.

Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Proposals accepted

The Spokane Art School is accepting proposals for an exterior face-lift of its building.

Designs must involve paint and should be visible and colorful.

Grant money is available for the painting and design of the exterior.

The Spokane Art Center is also accepting proposals for exterior lights and other building enhancements, though grant money for these projects is limited.

Enhancement will be completed in August. The deadline for submissions is June 30.

Auditions

The Onyx Theatre Troupe will hold auditions for the Ntozake Shange play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf” on Saturday, May 27, at East Central Community Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The play is about the perceptions, struggles and triumphs of African American Women.

Those interested must prepare a one-minute monologue.

The Spokane Area Children’s Chorus is holding auditions for girls and boys, ages 7-17, at Westminster Congregational Church on June 5, 7, 12 and 14.

Those auditioning aren’t required to prepare a song.

String Quartet to play final concert

The Eastern Washington University Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will play its final concert of the academic year on Thursday, May 25, at 8 p.m. in the EWU Music Building Recital Hall.

Admission it $5. EWU students with I.D. attend free.
