Foley Quits Nra; It’s Too ‘Politicized’
Former House Speaker Tom Foley told CNN’s “Late Edition” on Sunday that he is resigning his life membership in the National Rifle Association because it has become too politicized.
He said the resignation has nothing to do with the NRA’s having worked to defeat him when he sought re-election last year.
“What is a problem, I think, for those who are gun owners in the United States, and particularly for those who are members of the NRA, is to see this organization, a very old organization, becoming more and more strident, more and more politicized and more and more partisan. I think that’s a dangerous thing.”
Former President Bush withdrew his life membership last week over a controversial fund-raising letter.
