Situations Bad And Promising

Nancy Bloom

Dear Nancy: I have been living with my boyfriend for six years. Lately I have been feeling a lack of commitment and support from him. I am considering moving on. My job is stressful and unsatisfying and I am looking for something new. This dream was so vivid and unusual for me that I thought it might have meaning. Help! - Donna

I am outside and see a snake wound in the roots of an old stump that is lying on its side on the ground. Someone tells me that if I turn the stump, the snake can get free. As I do so, I notice there is more than one snake there. I continue to turn the stump and then walk away. I turn around and see seven or eight snakes standing straight up and moving, as a group, away from the stump and me. I am amazed and want to get closer for a better look. As I try to approach them, I notice one huge snake standing up in the roots looking right at me. I decide not to pass him; I feel he is guarding the exit of the others.

Dear Donna: This dream gives us many clues about your situation in life. The uprooted stump implies a lack of life and growth. The roots above ground show a lack of support and connection to deeper levels of yourself. There is no foundation and no real security.

Snakes are highly associated with life and death in many traditions because they spend much of their life underground and rejuvenate themselves by shedding their skin. In your dream, you are releasing the snakes. This shows your willingness to let go of the old, dead environment you’ve been living in and allow your life energy (the snakes) to find a new home that is firmly rooted and growing, one that will nurture and sustain you. The fact that the snakes are standing tall implies that you have the strength and determination to accomplish this. Your energy is rising to the occasion.

You may not know exactly where the snakes are going or what they will find, but I can see that you have faith enough to let go and move on to a new, more satisfying life. I wish you the best, Donna.

Dear Nancy: This dream stayed with me for weeks after I had it. Can you help me understand it? - Susan

I am putting firewood in the top of a huge furnace, filling it to the top. I can see there are some hot coals at the bottom and I know when it takes off it will be a great fire. I have a suede jacket on and I notice some soot on one side. On the other side I see some very intricate and beautiful stitching that I know was done by a celestial being. I am awed by that and very happy. I am also aware that if I don’t keep the jacket close to me, some gangs might see it and steal it for their club jacket.

Dear Susan: I loved this dream and feel it has great significance for you. Fire is energy and this energy is controlled in a furnace so there is no danger of it spreading. You are adding fuel, building on to it. Are you fueling a new idea or action in your life? The hot coals at the bottom are the beginnings or seeds of this new concept and you have faith that it will take off.

The jacket shows you are “wrapped up” and energized by this project or idea. The soot illustrates your hard work and the stitching indicates you are being helped by the higher realms.

The advice in the dream is to guard your idea and keep it quiet so that others, represented by the gangs, do not steal it. All in all, this is a wonderful dream offering encouragement and support. I do hope you’ll let me know how it works out!
