Trend Finds Us Staying At Home To Be Entertained
As electronics makers will tell you, people seeking entertainment don’t have to leave home for it - and increasingly, they aren’t. What with VCRs, video games, CD players and computers at hand, the confines of home are hardly, well, confining at all. How dedicated are we to seeking amusement at home?
Sony Electronics recently commissioned a study to measure that and turned up some interesting numbers regarding video vs. moviegoing.
According to its Home Entertainment Trends Survey held in February, 41 percent of respondents said they go out to the movies less frequently than five years ago.
Coincidentally, 41 percent also said they rent video tapes more frequently than five years ago.
In addition, 34 percent said they record programs on their VCR more frequently than before.
Overall, the survey found, video rentals were up 21 percent and timeshift recording was up 12 percent from five years ago.
