Gunmen Shoot, Kill Television Reporter
Gunmen shot and killed a reporter for Algeria’s state TV station, the third journalist to die in a week and the 46th since a Muslim fundamentalist rebellion began three years ago.
Mourad Hamazia, 30, was killed Saturday night as he got out of his car near his home in the Algiers suburb of Baraki, a government source said Sunday, speaking on condition of anonymity.
No group immediately claimed responsibility, but the source blamed the killing on “a group of terrorists,” the term used by the government for Muslim militants.
Extremists belonging to the Armed Islamic Group have targeted journalists, intellectuals, teachers and public officials in their fight to topple Algeria’s military-backed government.
