Seven Injured In Two-Car Accident

From Staff And Wire Reports

Seven people, including five children, were injured Tuesday during a two-car collision on Highway 41 in Post Falls, the Idaho State Police said.

Carolyn Shewfeld, 36, was driving a 1978 Ford van into the Chateau Mobile Home about 5 p.m. when she failed to yield to an oncoming car, ISP officials said.

Shewfeld was taken to Kootenai Medical Center, along with six others. She was treated and released late Tuesday.

Also released from the hospital were two of her three passengers: Jeff Hooven, 24, and Eli Hooven, 10 months. Sarah Walser, 7, was uninjured.

The driver of the second car, a 1981 Mazda, was Melody Halterman, 22, who underwent surgery late Tuesday.

One of her passengers, Christian Eustler, 2, was listed in fair condition. Two others, Tiffany Halterman, 7, and Mariah Eustler, 5 months, were released.

None of the victims in Halterman’s car were wearing seat belts, the ISP said. It is unclear who wore seatbelts in the Shewfeld van.
