Stampeders Ready To Run

Compiled From Wire Services

The owner of the Calgary Stampeders wants to sell the CFL club, preferably to a local buyer.

Stampeders owner Larry Ryckman estimates he has lost $13 million since buying the team in 1991.

The 50-year-old franchise, which features quarterback Doug Flutie, was community-owned until Ryckman took over.

“I don’t think this team is going to sell,” Ryckman said at a news conference. “But if there’s somebody willing to step up and take over from where I am on behalf of the city of Calgary, it’s gone.”

If there is no local buyer and he continues to lose money, Ryckman says he would sell the club to U.S. interests.
