Gun Missing From Drive-By Shooting

A gun used in a drive-by shooting spree early Tuesday was tossed from the car during a Spokane police chase and has not been found, officers said.

The weapon is somewhere along Wellesley between Standard and Wall, or along Wall north of Wellesley to Rowan. An exhaustive search of the area was unsuccessful, police said.

The chase began shortly before 4 a.m., when passengers in a Toyota 4-Runner fired shots at a house near Standard and Wellesley. The rig had been stolen from the Valley earlier, police said.

Officers chased the truck west on Wellesley. The youths drove north on Wall, through a yard at one intersection and then crashed into a home at Stevens and Rowan.

All four teenagers jumped out of the car and ran. Officers and a police dog chased one of them through several yards. The dog may have bitten the suspect as he climbed over a fence and got away, police said.

The dog found another suspect, Jerrod Stuart, 19, hiding under a camper in the back yard of a house in the 300 block of West Joseph. Police found Jerrod Netto, 18, a short time later.

Both were booked into the Spokane County Jail for car theft. Stuart also was booked for first-degree reckless endangerment because detectives believe he fired shots from the back seat.

The driver and another passenger, who police believe also fired a gun, have not been found. Detectives have the names of both suspects.

Police have not been able to find any bullet holes or evidence that anything was hit during the shooting. Residents with information on the drive-by or the location of the missing gun are asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
