Devils Trade For Tikkanen

Left wing Esa Tikkanen, who has played for five Stanley Cup champions, was traded to the New Jersey Devils by the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a third-round pick in the 1997 Entry Draft.

In East Rutherford, N.J., the agreement designed to keep the Devils in New Jersey for the next 12 years faces new financial obstacles because certain luxury seating has been eliminated from the final lease.

St. Louis defenseman Chris Pronger was suspended for four games and fined $1,000 by the NHL after slashing center Pat Peake of the Washington Capitals in the throat.
