Wood Burning Restricted
Cold weather and winter air inversions arrived together in Spokane this week, prompting air quality regulators to issue a pollution advisory.
Air quality was only moderately good on Thursday, according to the Spokane County Air Pollution Control Authority.
Small particles in the air rose above the limit of 75 micrograms per cubic meter - half the federal safety standard for fine dust in the air but the level that triggers a wood-burning alert.
Only Environmental Protection Agency-approved wood stoves are allowed to be used in the Spokane no-burn zone until air quality improves, said Ron Edgar of SCAPCA. Outdoor burning is prohibited in all of Spokane County.
Wood stove information can be obtained at 456-4727. General burning information is available at 456-4710.
