Browns To Baltimore?
The Cleveland Browns reportedly will announce Monday they are moving to Baltimore.
The team’s majority owner and president, Art Modell, said the team has financial problems and that he would do whatever it takes to remain competitive in the NFL.
Modell, in a telephone interview with the Akron Beacon Journal and the (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, neither confirmed nor denied he had struck a deal to move the Browns to Baltimore.
Modell did admit he was frustrated with what he said was a lack of support from Cleveland officials.
“Right now, there is nothing going on with the city or the county here at all. If a rabbit can be pulled out of the hat at the 11th hour, then I’ll change my tune.”
Negotiations between the Browns and the city of Cleveland come as voters in the Cleveland area prepare to head to the polls Tuesday to decide whether to extend a tax on cigarettes and alcohol to pay for repairs to Cleveland Municipal Stadium.
