Hitler’s Granite Put To New Use

Compiled From Wire Services

Tons of gray granite Adolf Hitler ordered quarried to build himself a victory monument have been bought by a Swede with artistic plans of his own.

Hitler intended the Swedish stone for a huge memorial in Berlin, until defeat by the Allies foiled his plans.

The blocks, a dozen 10-ton slabs, have sat abandoned in a quarry in southern Sweden since V-E Day, the national news agency TT said Friday.

Swedish quarries owner Bjorn Nordenhake bought the blocks and said he will let several sculptors have a crack at them. But he refused to say what he had paid and exactly what kind of art he had in mind.
