Depth Lifts Mead Boys To Aaa Title

Don’t mess with the Mead Panthers when it comes to the biggest race.

Rebounding from last week’s regional loss to Ferris, Mead’s boys won a record 8th consecutive State AAA title during Saturday’s WIAA/ U.S. Bank cross country championships at Sun Willows Golf Course.

Ferris placed three runners in the top five, including champion Isaac Hawkins and runner-up Paul Harkins, but couldn’t catch Mead.

Earlier, East Valley repeated as girls AA champion, edging runner-up South Whidbey 92-96.

The seventh-ranked Chewelah boys upstaged the Class A field to earn a decisive 61-93 edge on top-ranked Chelan.

In other results, West Valley finished second among AA boys, Ferris placed third - five points behind champion Snohomish - in the AAA girls and Christian Laugen of St. George’s was A/B boys runner-up.
