Truck Overturns, Killing 70 In Iraq

Compiled From Wire Services

More than 70 people were killed when a truck they were riding in overturned on a highway in northern Iraq, an Iraqi opposition group said Saturday.

There was no independent confirmation of the report.

It said the crash took place Wednesday near Chamshamal, about 160 miles north of Baghdad. The area is between the part of Iraq run by the Baghdad government and the northern region run by the Kurds, and is controlled by neither side.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan claimed the government forces Kurds to use unsafe trucks to travel in and out of government-controlled areas, instead of using regular buses.
