Turcotte’s One-Timer Sinks Sabres

Darren Turcotte scored with 1:09 to play Sunday night to give the Winnipeg Jets a 4-3 victory over the Bufalo Sabres in Buffalo, N.Y.
While twisting, Turcotte one-timed a loose puck past Dominik Hasek for his fifth goal of the season and gave the Jets their first win in Buffalo since January 1987.
Donald Audette’s first goal of the season had tied the game 4:47 into the third period. Pat LaFontaine’s shot rebounded off goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin to a waiting Audette.
Alexei Zhamnov, Teppo Numminen and Keith Tkachuk also scored for Winnipeg. Buffalo also got goals from Garry Galley and Brad May.

Mikael Renberg ended a three-game scoring drought with two goals as Philadelphia beat Hartford.
Renberg also added an assist, while linemate John LeClair had a goal and two assists.
The victory snapped a three-game winless streak for the Flyers. Hartford, after starting the season with four straight victories, is 1-6-1 over its last eight.

Rookie Radak Dvorak scored two goals and Florida continued its domination of state rival Tampa Bay with the victory.
Florida’s John Vanbiesbrouck lost a chance at his 22nd shutout when the Lightning scored with 4:32 to play to make it 3-1.
Florida has first place all to itself in the Atlantic Division as the third-year team continues to impress under new coach Doug MacLean.

Anaheim tied a club record with its fourth straight victory as Paul Kariya had a goal and two assists and Garry Valk scored the Mighty Ducks first shorthanded goal of the season in a rout of New Jersey.
Shaun Van Alen, Oleg Tverdovsky, Mike Sillinger and rookie Chad Kilger also scored against the NHL’s best defensive team to help secure Anaheim’s fifth consecutive home win and New Jersey’s fourth loss in six games.
The Ducks beat the defending Stanley Cup champs for the first time in three attempts, while limiting them to four shots on goal in each of the first two periods.

Joe Sakic had two goals and three assists to help Colorado bury Chicago and extend its winning streak to a franchise-record eight games.
Chris Simon, Peter Forsberg, Valeri Kamensky, Curtis Leschyshyn and Claude Lemieux, who extended a personal goal-scoring streak to five games, also scored for Colorado, which opened its lead in the NHL’s Pacific Division to seven points over secondplace Los Angeles.
Joe Murphy, Eric Daze and Brent Grieve scored for the Blackhawks, who finally came to life after falling behind 5-1 and being outshot 26-7 after two periods.
