Charges Dropped Against Sims
In Lincoln, Neb., two misdemeanor charges against Nebraska tailback James Sims have been dismissed because he entered a pretrial diversion program.
Sims, 24, was arrested July 3 after a disturbance involving his former girlfriend. A trial scheduled for September on charges of disturbing the peace and vandalism had been delayed until this week because the 25-year-old woman did not show up in court.
In Ann Arbor, Mich., Wolverine quarterback Scott Dreisbach, who has been sidelined for five weeks with a broken thumb, will undergo another operation Friday and miss the rest of the season
In Eugene, Ore., a jury ruled that Oregon defensive end Mark Schmidt acted in self-defense during a fight last year on campus that resulted in a $100,000 lawsuit against him.
In Boise, Idaho, Sione Fifita, a starting defensive lineman for the Boise State football team, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of disturbing the peace.
In April, Fifita was charged with misdemeanor battery involving a bouncer at a bar.
In Boulder, Colo., Colorado starting receiver Phil Savoy, the Big Eight’s leader in receptions with 43, has been suspended and will not play against Missouri on Saturday.
