Earnhardt’s, Irvan’s Cars Impounded By Nascar

Associated Press

Minutes after Sunday’s NAPA 500 race in Hampton, Ga., ended, NASCAR informed Richard Childress Racing and Robert Yates Racing that it was impounding Dale Earnhardt’s No. 3 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Ernie Irvan’s No. 88 Ford Thunderbird.

The cars will be transported this week to the Lockheed Corporation’s wind tunnel in Marietta, Ga., just north of Atlanta, for aerodynamic testing.

Kevin Triplett, a NASCAR spokesman, said no Pontiac was impounded because there will be a totally new Grand Prix for 1996.

All three of the 1995 models were sent to the wind tunnel for testing in March as NASCAR attempted to even up the aerodynamic rules after the new Monte Carlos started out the season in dominating form.
