John Stockton had 29 points, 12 assists and a key feed to Adam Keefe with with 5 seconds left as Utah beat Toronto Monday night.

Karl Malone, who had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Jazz, fouled Alvin Robertson with 45 seconds left, but the Toronto guard hit only one free throw to cut Utah’s lead to 101-100.

Malone missed from short range, but Chris Morris got an offensive rebound. Stockton then passed to Keefe, whose jumper as the 24-second clock ran out put Utah ahead by 3 points.

Mavericks 94, Grizzlies 89

Vancouver, British Columbia Dallas shot the ball like a fledgling expansion team but used huge advantages in rebounding and freethrow shooting to hold off Vancouver.

The Mavericks tried to lose their first game north of the border, making only 27 percent (26 of 94) of their shots.
