Jaki Lake, Mary Ann Keith Distinguished Teachers
Jaki Lake, an honors English teacher at Shadle Park High School, and Mary Ann Keith, a second-grade teacher at Browne Elementary, have been chosen by Spokane Public School District 81 as Distinguished Teachers for the first quarter of the 1995-96 school year.
Lake teaches advanced-placement senior English and freshman core (social studies, English, science).
Keith has been with District 81 for 12 years and a teacher for 19 years with experience at Raymond (Wash.) Elementary and Whitworth Early Learning Preschool.
Karla Kraft, an undergraduate student at the University of Southern California, has recently been inducted for membership in the school’s Order of the Torch.
She was selected for her outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, commitment to USC and public speaking ability.
She is also a finalist for Ms. USC.
Kraft, a senior majoring in print journalism and international relations, is a 1992 graduate of North Central High School. She was a writer for The Spokesman-Review’s Our Generation section while in high school.
Karla Nuesse, daughter of Doug and Renee Nuesse, Spokane, is a contestant in the 1996 Miss Washington Teen All-American Pageant Nov. 24-26. She is a junior at Rogers High School.
Karen McBride, vice president and district manager at U.S. Bank of Washington, graduated from Pacific Coast Banking School, a two-year MBA-level program of management education, in September.
University High School graduates, class of 1993, have been elected as Sigma Chi fraternity officers for 1995-96 at the University of Idaho.
Darin Dougherty, was elected vice president; Randy Lindberg, treasurer; Jason Grimes, rush chairman; and Dan Christianson, as scholarship chairman.
