The Slice Like, Is Your Address Cool, Too?

We sort of like “999 W. Riverside,” even if it’s not really beside the river.

But perhaps yours is better. In any case, The Slice is now accepting nominations for the title of Coolest Address in the Inland Northwest.

If you were asked to make a movie about Spokane County’s auto emissions test centers: Who would you cast in the role of the inspector? And who would play the newcomer trying to find the addresses of the test centers in the phone book?

On the other hand: Michele Silva and others wrote to defend Tom Sherry’s smile. “His smile is the reason our family watches KREM-TV’s news,” she said.

Overheard at a Spokane video store (mother responding to a child’s rental suggestion): “But honey, Mommy has seen ‘101 Dalmatians’ 101 times.”

Cold weather advisory: Before starting your car on freezing mornings, remember to thump the hood. That gives heat-seeking cats a wake-up call.

Call (509) 455-8600: To find out about the “Cougar/Husky Challenge” food drive.

Warm-up questions: Who holds the record for most years of ice skating without ever getting one’s skates sharpened? Does every workplace have at least one employee spouse who is always hanging around for no apparent reason? Would the people who seem to think spaying and neutering is a joke change their tune if they spent a few hours at an animal shelter during a euthanizing session?

If I were in charge of my school, I would: “Build a fair instead of a school,” wrote Sarah Packard, 12, who attends Lakes Middle School in Coeur d’Alene. “Our teachers would be clowns. Lunch would be all junk food and kids would decide their own grades.”

“…build a Six Flags on school grounds,” suggested her classmate, David Humble, 11. “There would be 18 spring and Christmas vacations a year.” Today’s Slice question: What would you learn about Spokane if you rode the full round-trip length of every STA route all in one day?
