Protesters Arrested At Military School
Ten protesters re-enacting the 1989 murders of six Jesuit priests and two women in El Salvador were arrested Thursday for trespassing.
The 10 were participating in a six-day fast and vigil at the Army base in protest of Fort Benning’s School of the Americas, which trains Latin American soldiers.
The Fort Benning school has been the target of a five year campaign by church activists because some of its graduates have been linked to human rights abuses.
A congressional study found that 10 graduates of the school gained control of Latin American countries through military coups or other undemocratic means in the past 30 years. Other graduates have been linked to atrocities such as the murders in El Salvador.
